Intel's IQ80310 QUICKval kit, based on the Intel IOP310 I/O processor chipset, is a low-cost platform for rapid I/O software development. The kit provides a great tool set for developing storage applications.Networked computers are processing more data than ever, and servers have become a pivotal factor in their performance. While the I/O traffic that servers need to handle continues to increase, the number of CPU cycles available on servers for other applications has decreased, lowering their overall performance. To deal with this problem, Intel has created a family of I/O processors to balance the needs between server demands and the data I/O paths, while relieving data congestion. The Intel IOP310 I/O chip-set includes the Intel. 80200 microprocessor, featuring a 600 MHz Intel. XScale core, and the Intel. 80312 I/O companion chip with an integrated PCI-to-PCI bridge, and 100 MHz SDRAM interface.
